Argentina travel guide · The calendar
Read the official calendar, distinguish the different kinds of holiday and plan transport, accommodation and opening hours around the dates that affect your route.
Read the calendarDates that shape a trip
A long weekend can be a lively time to travel, especially when an event is the reason for going. It can also change the accommodation choices and transport departures that suit your itinerary. Start with Argentina's official holiday calendar for your year, then check the province or city and the particular attraction. A national holiday, a local observance and an event programme answer different questions. Build the trip from the dates that are actually published and leave unconfirmed future plans flexible.
A calendar left open from an earlier trip can look convincing. Check the year and any update before using it to choose flights or a short regional break.
The official calendar distinguishes fixed and transferable national holidays, non-working days, tourism-related days and local holidays. Their geographic reach and practical effects differ.
Ask the museum, winery, park or transport operator about the actual date. A holiday label alone does not establish whether a visitor service will open.

Understand the categories
Law 27,399 distinguishes national holidays that remain on their named date from transferable holidays, alongside non-working days. It also provides for additional dates intended to encourage tourism. Use the published annual calendar to see the observed date and category rather than calculating a long weekend from the anniversary alone. A local holiday can affect a particular jurisdiction without applying to the entire country; a religious non-working day may have a defined scope rather than being a general closure.
Carnival Monday and Tuesday are listed as national holidays in the law. Other commemorations can be observed on a transferred date. Read the calendar for the travel year before assigning dates to the itinerary.
For 2026, Resolution 164/2025 designates 23 March, 10 July and 7 December as non-working days for tourism. Keep that category distinct from a blanket claim that every business closes.
Check the local scope when a date appears in a city or provincial announcement. The calendar and the relevant authority are better guides than a social post that calls every observance a national holiday.

From the calendar to the journey
If a holiday overlaps your trip, identify the reservations that matter most: a particular overnight base, a through bus, a timed activity or a rental for a rural stay. Check actual availability and terms before building the surrounding days. A long weekend does not mean every destination will be full, nor does an empty-looking calendar prove that a small property has rooms. Let the real options determine the sequence. Keep meals and unscheduled walks flexible around those commitments.
Compare the actual departures and arrival times for your date. Leave room for the final journey from the airport or terminal, and confirm any rental collection or return arrangements.
A small village, remote lodge or preferred walking base may have fewer practical substitutes than a large city. Confirm the night you need before booking transport that depends on it.
Check the attraction or business directly. If the trip includes paperwork, banking or an appointment, confirm its working calendar separately from the sightseeing plan.

Events and future dates
A holiday can mark the broader period of a celebration without defining every performance, procession or local gathering. For Carnival in the Quebrada, use current provincial and municipal event information as well as the national calendar. For Mendoza's Vendimia, follow the official event programme for the activities you want to attend. For travel in 2027, check the official calendar as it becomes available and use the current local programme for events such as Carnival. A date calculated from Easter does not confirm a town's celebrations.
Confirm the event date, location, ticketing and any published visitor arrangements. A previous year's programme can help explain the kind of occasion, but it cannot establish this year's booking.
Checked 20 October 2026: Decree 1103/2026 establishes 9 November nationally, 10 November in Córdoba province and the City of Buenos Aires, and 11 November in Buenos Aires province. If travelling then, check local services and arrangements for the places on your route.
Return to the official calendar and event issuer before making a non-refundable commitment. Add confirmed dates to the plan without assuming that tourism-related days will repeat from one year to the next.
A useful calendar check
Use the holiday information to choose bookings and leave the rest of the day enjoyable.
The right year
Open the annual calendar and check the category and observed date. Save the relevant information alongside the bookings it affects.
The key night
For an undated example, imagine a three-night Mendoza visit over a holiday listed in the official calendar, arriving Friday and leaving Monday. The accommodation nights are Friday, Saturday and Sunday. This is a planning example, not a published event schedule.
Travel days
Match the Friday arrival and Monday departure to actual services and their stated airport or terminal. Add the final transfer between that arrival point and the accommodation; the example does not establish a timetable.
Tickets
If you want to attend Vendimia, check its actual dated activities and ticket arrangements through the official Vendimia programme. The hypothetical Friday-to-Monday visit is not presented as a Vendimia weekend.
Everyday needs
Ask the chosen winery to confirm the appointment for your dates, and confirm the rental office's Monday return arrangements if you are hiring a car. A non-working-day label is not proof that either business is closed.
Flexible time
If the chosen appointment is unavailable, keep the same confirmed three nights and substitute an unbooked walk in Mendoza city. That gives the day another shape without inventing an available venue or changing the whole weekend.
