Mendoza and Cuyo
A glass catching the late light. Vines below the Andes. Desert cliffs on a longer western journey. Begin with the days you want to spend here, then let the route take shape around them.

Mendoza offers a useful starting point for wine country and the Andes, with different experiences in the city, Luján de Cuyo, Maipú and the Uco Valley. Cuyo also extends into San Juan and San Luis. Farther north, a desert-park journey can connect San Juan's Ischigualasto with Talampaya in neighbouring La Rioja. These are distinct areas: choose a focus before turning every appealing name into one continuous road trip.
We suggest four or five nights as an initial outline for a city or wine-country base, a considered tasting day and a separate mountain outing. Arrival times and the distance to your chosen estates matter more than a simple count of appointments.
Compare Luján de Cuyo and Maipú with a stay farther south in the Uco Valley. A rural property can change the atmosphere of the visit, but it also changes the journey to dinner, wineries and onward transport.
Treat San Juan and the desert parks as another part of the journey, with suitable overnight bases. Ischigualasto and Talampaya have separate access arrangements. A shared place on a regional map does not make them a casual day trip from Mendoza.

01 · Mendoza wine country
A winery visit can mean a short tasting, a cellar tour or a long meal among the vines. Choose the experience you want, then group appointments by area. The city and the wine districts offer different bases for the same broad interest.
Look at Luján de Cuyo, Maipú and the Uco Valley separately. A famous name may involve a longer transfer than the map first suggests.
Confirm reservations, language, meals and transport. Leave the driving to someone who is not tasting, and give lunch time to become part of the experience.

02 · Towards the high mountains
The western road from Mendoza brings Potrerillos, Uspallata and the high Andes into consideration. Decide whether you want a scenic drive, a short authorised walk or a more demanding mountain experience. Each requires a different amount of preparation and time.
Aconcagua sightseeing and short walks are distinct from trekking or mountaineering. Check the permit and access arrangements for the activity and season you actually intend.
Confirm mountain-road conditions and give the return journey daylight. A vineyard stay does not automatically prepare you for a much higher outing.

03 · San Juan and neighbouring La Rioja
Ischigualasto and Talampaya offer different ways to encounter the western desert's geology. They work best as part of a planned regional journey, with overnight bases that support the visits. Do not assume that one park ticket or tour includes the other.
Confirm available circuits, guiding, reservations and transport through official park information. Visitor arrangements differ between the two protected areas.
Compare the full road itinerary, facilities and weather before linking the parks. A quieter arrival evening can be more valuable than adding another rushed stop.

Choose your starting point
Start with wine country, mountain time or a longer western route. Keep the number of bases proportionate to the days available, and let a few well-chosen stays do the work.
