Colonia Carlos Pellegrini

A village beside Laguna Iberá, with wildlife beyond the last streets and outings that begin with the weather. Come for the water and reeds. Stay long enough to find a slower daily rhythm.

Settle beside the lagoon

Let the village hold the days together.

Colonia Carlos Pellegrini is a base for the southeastern side of Iberá, where accommodation and guiding can bring the wetland within reach of a village stay. Its usefulness lies in settling in: a boat outing, a walk, a meal and time to return the following day. Before booking, make the approach journey and the activities clear. The final road connection can matter more than the distance from your arrival airport.

  1. 01
    Choose how much to arrange

An inclusive lodge stay may bundle food, activities and transfers. A more independent address gives you control over the mix. Compare both against the same list of needs, including how you will reach excursion departures.

  2. 02
    Allow for the arrival day

We suggest three nights as a comfortable first outline, with two usable days between travel. A late arrival and an early departure leave much less time than the same number of nights with a gentler connection.

  3. 03
    Use local knowledge early

Ask your host about the current road, suitable vehicle and planned outings before leaving your previous base. Save the arrival instructions and contact details. Arrange your departure at the same time, particularly when it connects with a fixed ticket.

Out on Laguna Iberá

Trade the road for the water.

A guided lagoon outing reveals the wetland landscape through low banks, floating vegetation and channels. Ask what kind of boat trip is offered, how long it lasts and where you board. Choose an arrangement that gives the guide time to interpret the habitat and you time to look.

  1. 01
Choose the outing for your interests

Mention birdwatching, photography or a general introduction when booking. Confirm the group size and what you need to bring. A shared excursion and a private specialist outing can use the same water but offer different amounts of flexibility.

  2. 02
Keep the conditions in the plan

Wind, water conditions and weather can affect the trip. Ask how the operator handles changes and leave room elsewhere in the stay for another suitable window. Check boarding arrangements in advance if access is a concern.

At the edge of the habitat

Look between the bigger outings.

The official Pellegrini walking map starts these paths in sector A at the Centro de Interpretación, on RP40 beyond the bridge from the village. Cerrito–Pasarela combines boardwalk and lagoon edge: the map estimates 850 metres, 45 minutes and low difficulty. Caraya offers a woodland contrast at an estimated 600 metres, 25 minutes and low difficulty. Choose by landscape and check current access; the map’s estimates are neither guaranteed walking times nor promises of wildlife.

  1. 01
    Get the day's route advice

De los Montes is the longer woodland and grassland option from the same interpretation-centre sector. The map estimates 2 kilometres, 90 minutes and medium difficulty. Confirm which paths are open and how recent rain has affected the surface before choosing it over the shorter walks.

  2. 02
    Keep observation patient

Bring binoculars if wildlife watching is central to your stay. Let animals move freely and follow guidance on where to stand. Keep back from the edge; a quiet animal is no invitation to approach.

Time at your base

Keep an hour for doing very little.

Use the Pellegrini village map to distinguish the Centro de Informes at the village-side RP40 bridge approach from the Centro de Interpretación beyond the bridge. The municipal camping area has lagoon docks, another useful orientation point. Ask your booked operator to confirm the exact departure dock; the map does not assign every boat to one jetty.

  1. 01
Make meals part of the booking

Ask what food is provided and which meals you need to organise independently. For specific dietary needs, agree the arrangements before arrival. A comfortable stay comes from practical details that fit you as well as attractive surroundings.

  2. 02
    Leave time between activities

Avoid booking every morning and afternoon before understanding the local rhythm. An early outing may earn a longer break, while the next day's conditions can suggest a different order. A settled base makes those changes easier to enjoy.

Plan your visit

Leave room for the place.

Our time allowances are editorial suggestions. Check access, opening days and transport for your own dates.

01

Getting here

Confirm your precise approach.

APN’s official Portal Laguna Iberá access places the entrance at Colonia Carlos Pellegrini on RP40, 120 kilometres from Mercedes, and describes 40 kilometres of asphalt followed by 80 kilometres of gravel and earth. That surface description is not a report of today’s conditions. Check the route, suitable vehicle and pickup point with your host before setting out, especially after rain, and leave the journey time dependent on the actual road.

02

Your base

Compare the complete package.

Check the room, meals, guides, boat trips and transfers separately, even when a stay is described as inclusive. Ask how activities are scheduled and whether they are shared. If booking independently, find out how you will reach each departure point and what services need advance reservation.

03

How long

Stay for two full days.

Three nights is our suggested starting point. It leaves room for a water outing, time on land and a little flexibility between them. Add a night for specialist birdwatching, photography or a slower pace. Before booking the outings, use the APN services resource to check guides and visitor arrangements. Shorter stays work best when the arrival and departure journeys leave worthwhile time at the destination.

04

Access

Describe what you need.

Boat boarding, uneven paths and the layout of rural accommodation can all affect the stay. Tell hosts and operators about mobility or other practical needs before booking, and ask for specific descriptions. General claims that an outing is easy do not explain every step between your room and the water.

05

Practical preparation

Ask what is available locally.

Confirm payment methods, meals, drinking water and any essentials you expect to buy at the destination. Save your reservation and transfer information before travelling. Ask about phone or internet access if staying connected matters to you; the accommodation's arrangements are more useful than assumptions about the whole region.

06

Departure

Keep the return comfortably paced.

Arrange the outward transfer with the same care as the arrival. Check road conditions again before leaving and allow margin before flights or long-distance connections. If continuing towards Misiones, compare the actual route and transfer options rather than assuming the geographically nearest line on the map is the quickest.
